Home Renovating = not recording
« on: December 07, 2015, 04:55:30 PM »
Reno updates here:

With the high and ever rising costs of hydro this past two years, we decided to take some action, and have a new Propane Furnace installed.

Ever nice!  it delivers a very comfy and clean heat.

Next...  now that we have the new furnace installed and set up, we can carry on with the reno project around the house.

With all the preparation for the furnace and for dry walling etc, the music has had to take a back seat this past few weeks, and for the next few weeks too, sad to say.   I MIGHT be able to squeeze a challenge tune in though, ... at least I'm hoping to get one in for the Dec. SMC here at the gmhCafe.

We put new drywall up in our main entrance way, and also in one bedroom, and we built a wall for the laundry room and added drywall to it, and got it mudded too.  We still have some dry walling to do but we got it started!

The house is large enough that we can move contents from one half of the house to the other, so we can have it cleared out for sanding the drywall mud off the walls this coming weekend....

DUST ALERT:
We'll be shutting down the computers this week, and probably packing them up in anticipation of the sanding and dust that's going to be floating around the entire house.
That means all my music gear and electronics are going to be packed up as well!

We'll have to block off the furnace air intakes etc too, after shutting it down, just before sanding time.  8)
I suspect that'll happen Saturday morning.

lots of fun.... but it's 'progress', as they say!

packing up some more gear....

We've already packed up 4 gigantic 3 ft. X 3 ft. X 4 ft high, heavy duty plastic bags full of electronic gear, speakers, amps, etc etc.

and here's some pics of some equipment/ instruments etc ready to be packed up too.

It's always sad when you have to put the toys away for a while, but it's temporary. :)

yeah, so the reno is taking longer than originally planned....  life happens!

It' funny what you plan in your mind as being a 'reasonable' amount of time to accomplish a given task or process, only to find that the actual doing of the task along with unforeseen circumstances beyond one's control seem to get in the way.  yeah, life happens!

We're not 25 an' full of p n vinegar anymore... the bones dictate how much can be done at any one time these days.

So go with the flow joe .... lol

We have made progress, and the drywall and mudding is done... it's comin along.

we'll get there.

My puter is still in the box... sheltered away so I can only get on for a quick check in now and then. ... carry on!

Reno update >   Drywall is done.  That mudding and sanding process took much longer than expected.  With my limited ability in my one shoulder and my other arm, I couldn't do any of the work I once could do.. not with the endurance I could do with it...

frustrating... because I'm the kinda guy who, once he delves into a project or task, I go at it tooth and nail ... relentless til the job is done.     The spouse, on the other hand, likes to dabble and is much more 'methodical' than I..  I just like to jump in and get er done...  whereas she's more like 'we can get at that part tomorrow or the next day... "
So with that part of the project I had to depend on her and my son to tackle the bulk of that job.

Priming and painting is now 95% done....  We went at it for the last 3 days and made quick work of that... wife on the brush 'cutting in' the corners, and I on the roller ... rockin' and rollin .... lol

I'll be able to unpack my gear soon, ... except there is no where to put it, or set it up... not on this side of the house - with the painting etc being done on the other side ... we're living in half the house and the reno takes up the other half.  There's no space on this side for doing anything. lol

Here's a few pics of the drywall and paint job.

Looking good Glenn!

it's comin' along.

we've stripped the place down for the reno, which was better than trying to drywall and paint around 'stuff'.

lots to do yet...

flooring to be done
new doors to hang
new closet doors
new entrance door
a couple new windows
new kitchen cabinets and cupboards
new tub surround

new studio set up....  :D    :D     :D

Sounds like everything I have coming up, Glenn.  Already did a few windows, but have lots left to do, including roofing.

But instead of just a new tub surround, I'll be taking out a wall for a bigger shower area...

Good work Glenn

We are a few weeks away from moving into a house that will need plenty of TLC to get it into shape, but the good news is I get to create a studio/ music space for myself which I have never had before.

Looking forward to plenty of splinters and swearing over the coming months.

For some that are inclined that way, renos are 'cool, fun, and great work projects' ..... I'd rather be playing my music, and recording. lol

Good luck with the move... and the renos that follow Gaz...   I found muscles ached where I hadn't felt any muscles before... lol :P :o

Yeah, the great part is getting the music area all set up so it functions the way you want, and is suitable for recording and monitoring.

Not fun at all anymore, Glenn.  Never used to mind the work, but now it's just a PITA set of projects that have to be done...
